It was a tall task to live up to last year’s spectacular finish in Super Bowl XLIX, a back and forth game that ended with New England’s Malcolm Butler securing an interception with less than a minute in the game.

This was not that kind of exciting Super Bowl.

On the other hand, if you were looking to catch Coldplay featuring Bruno Mars and Beyoncé at the halftime show, or were looking for more questions marks about Cam Newton’s character, then this was the Super Bowl for you.

The defenses of both teams held each other in check with not allowing either quarterback to throw a touchdown the entire game. Cam Newton’s frustration when things didn’t go his way started to boil his poise as the game went on and Peyton Manning was hanging on by a thread for his last rodeo as the aging veteran (who will soon turn 40 years-old).

Super Bowl MVP Von Miller pressured Newton all day long and strip-sacked him for touchdown; probably the biggest play of the game because he gave the Broncos’ defense that confidence that we all saw when they played the high-powered New England Patriots in the AFC Championship.

The first half ended with a quiet 13-7 score with Denver on top. But the Super Bowl would heat up at halftime with a three-way showcase featuring Beyoncé, Bruno Mars, and the headlining Coldplay. The band performed their hit songs and Beyoncé and Bruno Mars looked to duel each other in a dance off with them both singing one of Bruno Mars’ songs.

sb-50Personally I thought it was a better halftime show then most we’ve seen in the past. I could be biased because Beyoncé was dancing in a tight black outfit, so don’t take my opinion to the bank.

The rest of the game would continue to be a back-and-forth battle of the defenses, with Carolina showing none of that enthusiasm that they showed all year.

They were completely shut down. Newton’s lack of effort on his fumble late in the fourth stood out greatly.

The game ended with a final score of 24-10, with the Panthers scoring only 3 total points in the second half.

The biggest display that occurred after the game was superstar Newton answering media questions with a lack of energy and ultimately leaving the stand abruptly.

He was made out to look like a crybaby and sore loser, because if you know Newton, he’s been dancing all year after every touchdown, causing controversy for people that aren’t used to a quarterback with so much energy and love of the game. So is Cam a cry baby or a fierce competitor? Well, we’ll have to wait and see.
