Over the past few years, students at American International College have shown off their dorm rooms in self-styled videos similar to the television show ‘MTV Cribs.’

MTV Cribs was a television series about celebrities showing off their expensive homes, mansions, cars, and other personal belongings. Since then, not many students volunteered to display their dorm rooms.

But things are different for budding video producers at AIC who are happy to show off their dormitory digs.

Peter and Jeffrey Jean-Paul, students at AIC have added their own spin to AIC Cribs. They both made their own Cribs video which is titled ‘MTV Cribs (AIC Edition)’. Their video provided a much more different approach than the years past.

In the beginning of the video is a series of shots showing different areas of the campus with Peter giving a tour of his dormitory. He showcases the campus, Hines Dormitory, and finally, the room itself.

Several students and faculty expressed their opinions on the video.

One of those students was Curtis Cauley, a sophomore at AIC.

“My thoughts on the video were, the first thing that came to mind was how creative it was and how it had a different spin on how they were going to do a spin off version of MTV Cribs,” Cauley said. “I thought that was really cool.”

Cawley described some parts of the video which he admired.

“I like the background music, definitely fit the mood. The tone in the way they followed each other around, that was really good. Those guys kept it professional, real simple,” Curtis explained.

Another student at AIC shared his thoughts and likes on the video.

George Lee, sophomore at AIC, said he took a liking to the humor he saw in the production.

“I thought it was interesting and funny. It was kind of cool that those guys came up with an idea and made it into something funny,” Lee said. “I didn’t want to take my eyes off it; I kind of wanted to keep on watching it. It kept me going, it was a good video.”

Lee said he felt that the cameraman was a bit too shaky with the camera for some of the shots. But overall he liked the whole video.

Lee said he is also open-minded to the idea of having an MTV Cribs video with his own spin to it.

“My own style, my own music, why I have my speakers in the corner of my bed. I give you all my information because certain things in my room do mean something,” Lee explained.

Michele Moriarty-Ryan, a tutor at the Supportive Learning Services at AIC, said she was impressed by the video.

“I thought it was great, I thought it was funny, entertaining. Peter made something out of nothing; he added a great element of laughter,” Moriarty-Ryan explained.

Moriarty-Ryan also promised to share the video with others,

“I’m going to show my husband when I go home,” she said.

Marty Langford, New Media instructor at AIC, also said he was amazed at the work of the video.

“I thought it was terrific, I thought they did a nice job incorporating the look and the feel of the existing show.  I like kind of the immediacy and the intimacy of the way they shot it in terms of you had a lot of hand-held.  Those guys made it much more of an intimate experience and I thought it was really nice,” Langford said.

Langford also commented on the things that he liked about the video.

“The thing that I loved about it was just those guys don’t strike me as outgoing, outwardly funny and it appeared as though you weren’t trying to be funny and the humor just came across in the naturalism of their delivery.  The camera work was unobtrusive, wasn’t in the way, the cuts were terrific.  But the one thing that just stood out for me was that it was legitimately, honestly very funny,” explained Langford.

The brothers plan to create more videos for other students on campus. This could be the new beginning of the AIC Cribs.
