Peter and Jeffrey Jean-Paul have done everything together at American International College. They took the exact same classes and even shared the same dorm room for the past four years. Now, these fraternal twins will graduate together this December.

“I still think we’re dreaming that we’re done,” said Peter.

The brothers, as many of their professors and classmates call them, have made a lasting impact at AIC through their work in videography.

Working together, Peter and Jeffrey have made multiple videos for the marketing and theater departments at school. Through work study, they were the first students to create video content for AIC intramural sports.

“We don’t like to sit around waiting for people,” said Jeffrey. “We like to take the opportunity into our own hands.”

But the Jean-Paul brothers were not just handed opportunities.

Their freshmen year was a rough adjustment and according to Jeffrey, reality set in.

The two left their Waltham, Mass. home for college and thought it would be an experience filled with girls, parties and football.

None of that happened and the brothers began to feel homesick.

Looking back, Peter and Jeffrey credit the Supportive Learning Services (SLS) at AIC for helping them adjust to their new lives.

Laurie Messer works for the academic assistance program and is Peter’s one-on-one tutor.

“We direct students in cognitive, behavioral and organizational strategies that contribute to each individual developing habits for achievement in coursework, as well as in their personal lives,” said Messer.

Jeffrey described SLS as a warm, friendly environment and said, “When you enter the building, they’re more than just tutors. They’re like family to us.”

Michele Moriarty-Ryan is Jeffrey’s one-on-one tutor and was honored to work with such a kind, thoughtful young man.

“Jeffrey has been a dedicated and devoted student and will stop at nothing until he has achieved his goals,” she said.

Messer had similar things to say about Peter.

“Peter is a reflective thinker, so when he’s met with patience to put his thoughts together, his insight and creative critical thinking skills progress to fruition,” she said.

Peter and his brother have achieved many of their goals through this sense of creativity.

Both the brothers are communication majors. They spend numerous hours in the communication Mac Lab every day where they are sought out by many peers for guidance.

Cody Stone is also a communication major and had classes with Peter and Jeffrey for the past four years.

“To be in class with them is like being in class with a star athlete, but different because they are so humble about themselves,” said Stone.

Stone enjoyed watching the two go through the whole process from coming up with funny ideas, to really creating quality end products.

Without much experience in the field before college, they reached out to Communication Professor Marty Langford.

“Peter and Jeffrey are two of the most outstanding students I’ve ever had,” said Langford.

Langford worked in the video production industry for most of his career and recently released his first film “Doomed: The Untold Story of Roger Corman’s the Fantastic Four.”

According to Peter, the brothers always wanted to make videos. They would watch YouTube and be inspired to make their own videos.

“So we reached out to Marty and he was really helpful,” said Peter.

Although the two students were initially timid and introverted according to Langford, they have excelled under the wing of their professor.

“Since I’ve had them in several of my classes, they’ve excelled in nearly every discipline that they worked on. From screen writing, to writing television comedy, to video production and editing,” said Langford.

Peter and Jeffrey will miss parts of AIC and people like Langford who were so willing to help.

For Jeffrey, he will miss the professors the most.

“It was a good thing coming here to the school because the professors here are really hands-on,” he said. “They don’t just see you as a number; they see you as a student.”

With such eagerness to learn and genuine kindness, these brothers will go far. The countless hours they put into all their projects show how hardworking they really are.

Being the first ones to graduate college in their family, the Jean-Paul brothers are already succeeding. They hope to find the same success in the film industry or entertainment business. Both are interested in acting as well, and of course, doing it all together.

Students, professors, and faculty of AIC will surely miss the Jean-Paul brothers and everything they’re done for the college’s community.

“They have really shined as a representation of the communication department and around campus,” said Langford.

“Life has much in store for the Jean-Paul brothers. We will all miss Jeffrey and Peter,” said Moriarty-Ryan.
