Who are the Queen Bees?

Shaneisha Jones, Staff Writer

Many AIC folks have more than likely attended an event that the Queen Bees have performed at, some without knowing who they are.

For those not familiar, let me inform you of who these individuals are.

These young women make up the dance club here at American International College. They were established 2015 and were started by a group of women who are passionate about dancing.

Not only do they dance but they are involved in the community in a variety of ways. The main goal these young women would like to accomplish is making a difference along with demonstrating their talents.

The Queens Bees want to excel in ways far more reaching than dance alone. We would like for the men and women of the world who have such talent to offer much more than such.

The Queen Bees have an executive board consisting of five young women. They are Ginger Solomon, who is the President of the club, Denisha Walker, who is the Vice President, Treasurer Khadijah Brown, Kiana Robinson, the Choreographer, and myself, Shaneisha Jones.

In 2015, the Queen Bees were doing any and every event they could to receive exposure around campus.

The Queens opened up the year at the Todrick Hall show which was their first performance. Then there was the Homecoming Pep Rally, which was packed with students and alumni.

This list continues but the one event that meant and still means the most to these young ladies is the Dance Showcase, the first showcase is referred to as the Queen Bees’ Extravaganza.

This purpose of the showcase is to exhibit the teams dancing skills along with give other talented individuals the same opportunity. The showcase shows the various dances the Queen Bees have done.

The theme for last year’s show was Beyoncé, which meant that there were many dances and songs that the great Beyoncé performed.

Last year was the first year of the new tradition and the show had a much greater turnout then expected which was fantastic.

All of the different performances around campus had finally paid off. The crowds grew larger and larger and the team only became more nervous. Overall, the showcase of last year was a learning experience.

I asked Ginger Solomon, the President of the Queen Bees, a couple questions regarding the teams overall performance and what the dance team means to her.

Shaneisha Jones: What does the Queen Bees means to you?

Ginger Solomon: The Queen Bees has been very inspiring. It makes me feel really good that I am a part of an organization that is making progression as time goes on. The vision I have for team is slowly but surely coming to light. It just takes time for a team to great, it does not happen overnight.

SJ: How do you feel you guys did in the showcase last year?

GS: I feel as though their major room for improvement. However, as I said earlier being great does not happen overnight. The girls and the team did a good for it being the first time doing such a big performance.

We want to improve from those mistakes, along with make sure our audience is enjoying what they see. The Queen Bees are planning to do bigger and better.

For the showcase this year we are coming to show out. The team this year is ready to display their talents.

I would reveal the theme of the show but nope, I will wait so you are all surprised. I hope you all come out and support the Queen Bees.

The showcase will take place April 8 at 8 p.m. Come out and support the movement. I’m pretty sure once you have watched them dance you want to join the team yourself.
