New England Patriots win Super Bowl!
February 11, 2015
Tom Brady broke his childhood idol Joe Montana’s Super Bowl touchdown record (Montana 11, Brady 12) in the instant classic matchup between the Seattle Seahawk and the New England Patriots. Patriots earned a 28-24 Super Bowl victory Sunday, fourth since 2001.
Now did they win it themselves or did Seattle give the game away in the closing seconds?
With Seattle dictating the most of the second half it had almost seen that they were starting a second straight Super Bowl victory right in the eyes. When the game seemed in hand and time working against New England the Seahawks may have got complacent and looking forward to another celebration.
With New England down by 10 going into the 4th quarter Brady had another thing in mind and lived up to his nickname the “comeback kid”.
The Patriots scored 14 points in the last 15 minutes of play to take the lead against arguably the number 1 defense the past few seasons. Brady hit Julian Edelman on what was the game winner with 2:02 left on the clock.
While Patriots fans cheered thinking they finally got the monkey off their back from not winning the big game in exactly 10 years; both teams knew the game way far from over. If anything, this was when the game really took off.
Russell Wilson who brought the Seahawks back last week and through a game winner Jermaine Kearse in overtime against the Packers led his troops back on the field to try and save their Back to Back Super Bowl winning dreams. And as the second half seemed the go Seattle seemed to move the ball controllably, but one play changed the tempo of the game completely.
Wilson found his big target Kearse again who hauled in a pass that was juggled around in the air on his back to give Seattle the ball inside the New England 5 yard line. That type of catch in the big game was nothing new to the Patriots and seemed where everyone saw a flashback to when they played the Giants with David Tyree making one of the greatest catches in Super Bowl History as well.
With the momentum changing instantly to the Seahawks side they put the ball in the hands of “Beast Mode” (Marshawn Lynch) were he brought the ball a yard out from the end zone. With under a minute left on second down, it was the obvious play call to give the ball to Marshawn Lynch again the heart and soul of Seattle’s offense and a big reason behind their success the past 3 seasons.
With the game being a chest match between Bill Belichick and Pete Carroll; everyone who was watching figured it would be a run, and when Wilson dropped back everyone was fooled except Malcom Butler who seized the moment and took advantage of his opportunity.
Carrol tried to outsmart Belichick one more and threw the ball, which was intercepted by the rookie. Who had got his second chance by redeeming himself after giving up the big play to Kearse and putting the Seahawks in the situation to be victorious.
Carrol’s play call is seen as one of the worst calls of all time. Why throw the ball when you have a running back in the backfield who had over 100 yards on the day and over the course of the season averages over 2 yards after contact?!
From what stats show, Lynch could have been hit at the line of scrimmage and would have still tumbled into the end zone. It is Lynch’s signature run, by running over and carrying defenders; which was not the case in the final minute. Carrols words on the play “it was to waste time and play for 3rd and fourth down.” Trying to leave the comeback kid with another chance to flaunt his magic.”
As Brady took a few knees the drain clock a scuffle broke out between the 2 teams which had no further outcome on the game. The Patriots won their 4 tittle since 2001 and Brady finally joins Joe Montana and Terry Bradshaw for the most Super Bowl Victories by a starting quarterback ever (4).Brady and Belichick both move to 21 post season wins which is the most ever by a quarterback and a coach.. Are the 2 now the best tandem ever?
And as for Brady he was announced Super Bowl MVP for the 3rd time in his career which he was granted a 2015 Chevy Colorado.
A few words from the MVP on Butler to help save and put a bigger stamp on Brady’s legacy was “A guy like Malcom who makes that type of quick, instinctive plays, that’s one of his strong suits. I don’t think it surprised any of us players because that’s what his skill set is.”
And as a thank you from Brady to Butler he says he would love to give Butler the MVP truck. For the Seahawk back to the drawing board in hoping to return to Super Bowl 50 for a third straight trip.
As for the rest of the Patriots except Vince Wilfork the players celebrate their first Super Bowl win as Patriots.
