Apple Products in the College Setting
September 22, 2015
Why does everyone seem to favor Apple products? It is very clear that the students on campus at AIC today use a variety of them, from iPads, to iPods, to iPhones and Macs. But what makes Apple so appealing?
Rosa Lezhnyak, a junior at American international College, currently uses her iPhone 4 cell phone without any troubles.
“It may be old, but I have had no issues with the phone, and love using it. I will continue to use the phone, even though there are much newer versions,” she said.
Apple products have much better quality than non-Apple products, having a much longer lifespan. When Apple has an issue with a current product, the next model to come out already has the problem fixed. For smaller fixes, there are frequent software updates, free of charge.
Apple devices are very easy to use, due to the simplicity of the design. After purchasing one Apple product, it is very easy to figure out how to use another. Messages, pictures, and music, among other things, are easily transferred between products thanks to the iCloud software that shares information across compatible devices.
Kelsey Bouthilette, also a student at American International College, spoke highly of her iPhone and iPad.
“I first owned the iPhone, and as I went to college, I purchased the iPad Mini to use during class. I love the fact that I can type something on my phone and have it directly go onto my iPad through the iCloud,” she said.
In February, Abigail Elise of the International Business Times reported that Apple pulled 93% of the handset industry profits (according to a Canaccord Genuity, an investment firm out of New York City), showing how popular Apple products are to the population. From this percentage, Apple had $18 billion in earnings in just iPhone sales.
Also according to Elise, in a poll of 3,000 iPhone users taken in March 2014, 59% of users admitted to blind loyalty to their phones, with 78% saying they were unable to imagine life without them.
The iPhone has dominated the cell phone market for almost eight years, since it first debuted in 2007. Although there have been slight changes in style, storage, and speed, Apple has managed to stay on top of the ever-changing market.
Since Apple products are so widely used, support is very easily accessed, whether it be going directly to the Apple store or finding help through forums online. This is due to the large number of people who own Apple products.
Joshua Weintraub, a junior at American International College, has an iPhone and has owned a MacBook Pro for about four years. Since he has owned the Mac, he has had no issues with it to this day. He also knows that if he comes across any issues regarding it, he can easily access support to help correct the problem.
Apple is not only a very wealthy company, but also clearly creates very reliable products. General customers and college students will no doubt continue to buy, rely, and recommend their products provided Apple keeps putting out dependable items.
