Review: "Suicide Squad" a hit

If you’re into movies, then you have probably heard of the new DC movie “Suicide Squad,” starring Deadshot (Will Smith), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), and Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney).

The plot is pretty interesting: a bunch of DC villains are found expendable yet useful by the U.S government, so they are deployed in a “Suicide Squad” to help save the world from a powerful witch called Enchantress (Cara Delevingne).

We also have The Joker (Jared Leto), who does absolutely nothing to help advance the plot; he’s just there to add character development for Harley as well as add a creepy, sinister aesthetic to the film.

In fact, he’s so irrelevant to the actual storyline that the photographer made him stand away from everyone else in the official poster’s photoshoot.suicide-squad-movie-set-visit

Not to say that Jared Leto made for a bad Joker – in fact he was “awesome,” according to AIC student Sara Lepisto.

“I wish he had more screen time… Jared Leto did a good job!,” Lepisto said.

Lepisto had seen the movie back in it’s opening week and absolutely loved it.

Shanell Shirley, also a student at AIC, also liked the Joker in ‘Suicide Squad.’

“I liked him,” Shirley stated. “Out of all the Jokers, I feel like he’s more realistic because instead of just crazy, he’s terrifying.”

Fellow student Shiane Wilkins also added he was “modern and more gangster, with tattoos instead of face paint.”

“The relationship between The Joker and Harley Quinn were inseparable,” Wilkins said. “In the beginning, he was just using her, but after the vow scene, it was definitely love.”

“The Joker was really trying to rescue her from jail,” Shirley added. “She loved him, and he loved her back.”

However as any DC fan will tell you, The Joker and Harley Quinn’s relationship is far from loving.

In fact, there were many scenes depicting The Joker abusing Harley that ended up getting deleted in the final cut because the director wanted a more ‘loving’ theme when it came to the clown pair.

Originally, The Joker always found Harley rather annoying but would keep her around for his selfish purposes.

The film showed a different side: The Joker being madly in love with Harley and would do anything for her. Although Jared Leto did play a good role in the film, it lacked the original contingency many DC fans craved.

The musical aspect of the movie brought in a whole new group of performers. Bands such as Twenty-one Pilots and Panic! At The Disco were featured along with artists Skrillex, Rick Ross, and Kehlani to create a diverse pool of songs for the album.

“I actually haven’t seen the movie yet,” said Keiyon Johnson. “The music is dope though, I like the range of it. Rock mixed with rap; oldies remade. I listen to it everyday.”

The soundtrack has a total of fourteen songs that were released August 5, the same day the film hit the theaters.

As of Sept. 21, the film made a worldwide total of $720.1 million dollars at the box office. In comparison to their budget of $325 million dollars, they obviously did pretty good.

Overall, the movie was a hit regardless of contingency errors within the characters. The music was that good.
