Review: Joey Bada$$’ “All Amerikkan Badass”

Jamar Johnson, Staff Writer

All Amerikkkan Badass is Joey Bada$$’ sophomore album – it was released April 7th of this year, about two years after he released his debut album “B4.DA.$$”.

When I first saw the title I didn’t know what to expect, but after listening to it I was pleasantly surprised from what I heard from Joey on this album.

On this album Joey focuses on social issues and problems we have in America such as police brutality, racism and equality and he also attempts to uplift and give advice to people going through these problems.

I enjoyed this album from beginning to end; all the tracks were very cohesive and they all had good messages, the production on this album was good and to add to that was Joey’s impressive lyricism.

There are features on this project to help make it even better such as J. Cole, Kirk Knight, Nyck Caution, Schoolboy Q, Styles P and Chronixx all playing a part to make this album as great as it was.

Some of my favorite tracks on here were “Miss Amerikkka,” “Good Morning Amerikkka,” “Land Of The Free” and “Amerikkkan Idol.” The most impactful song to me was “Miss Amerikkka”.

In this song Joey is having a conversation with America and he is questioning the country from the perspective of a young black man living here in America asking the country things like why is he always misjudged and treated like he doesn’t matter along with many other questions this.

“Amerikkkan Idol” is another very powerful song on this album and is the last track on the album. On this song Joey is giving advice to us about how we should handle problems like equality and he also expresses his frustration he has with the country and how people are treated.

Another thing I liked about this album is it is not a very long album but not too short either, it is easy to get through and you can also learn a bit by giving this album a listen.

On this album Joey split it up into sections where the first half of the album is very uplifting, calm, almost sympathetic in a way and the second half of the album is where Joey got more aggressive and straight to the point.

There is not much I would change about this album at all. I think he did a really good job with it, but if I did have to change anything about this album I would remove the song “Legendary.”

This song could’ve been much better, I also think it would’ve sounded better in the first half of the album besides that this album is one of my favorite albums of this year without a doubt.

This album should be talked about more but it received good recognition as it debuted at #5 on the US Billboard 200. With great content, production, lyrics and some outstanding features, this album is worth a listen, and more.

The question is, what will Joey release next? He can only get better as he has with every mixtape/album he has released. It was a long two year wait but it was worth it with all the great content and coming at a time when the message is timely and appropriate.

It’s an album that will help you get through the hard times of your daily lives. I give this album 5 stars out of 5.
