At American International College students are encouraged to get hands-on experience in the work force. There are many opportunities to do so whether it be through an internship, a work study or club related activities.

One specific club that focuses on the business world is Enactus.

Enactus is an emerging club on American International College campus. Like many other clubs, Enactus has a growing number of members.

The club is larger than just AIC; it is a global non-profit organization. The club focuses on entrepreneurship. Specifically on the campus, the members create projects to better the stakeholders of the college and the surrounding community.

Recently, Enactus of AIC took on yet another project called Pie 4 Education. Every Thursday during C-Hour for the past month, Enactus had been hosting this event. It is a large fundraiser for the club.

There are usually three staff or faculty members selected to participate. These three sit at a table in the heart of AIC’s campus, the Quadrangle. As students passed they were given the opportunity to purchase a mini whipped-cream pie for one dollar. They then take the pie and hit one of the three staff with it.

“This fundraiser was more than just fun and games,” Enactus President Nicole Taylor.

This Enactus project, like all the rest, was for something much greater than pie. Much like the title explains, it was a fundraiser for education. It was an event dedicated to the Enactus’ Entrepreneurship Scholarship Fund.

Taylor states that, “Our plan is to award one western Massachusetts resident who is applying to AIC a $500 scholarship which will be based off of the creation of their dream job.”

Enactus found a fun way for students to help other students dreams come true, by raising money for this scholarship. But not only students were involved in the pie throwing. Faculty enjoyed the event with their colleagues as well.

Communication Professor Mary Ellen Lowney said she enjoyed the event a lot.

“It was fun! I got to pie the infamous Moose in the face!” After paying only three dollars she had fun and gave one of her pies to another student to allow them to participate.

Overall, the Pie 4 Education fundraiser was a huge success that got many people on the AIC campus involved. It was one of the most beneficial events that the Enactus club hosted this year.

Even though the semester is almost over, don’t fret: Enactus will be back in the fall with the pie-in-your-face event, every Thursday.
