Will the Zika Virus Infect the Olympics?

Kyle Kazukynas, Staff Artist

The Zika virus has become very prominent in South American countries. This virus at the moment has no cure and threatens the lives of many.

All are at risk; even the unborn. Many infected mothers’ new born babies have been greatly affected.

They unfortunately are inflicted with a birth defect that causes the brain and skull to be underdeveloped. This in turn threatens their health and longevity.

For this reason many are skeptical why the 2016 Olympics will be held in Rio of Brazil.

Also many wonder how the virus will affect the tourists and athletes alike. Brazil is already stricken with poverty and disturbances in the government. Only time will tell how this decision will affect the greater population of Brazil and its counterparts.
